Unspoken Roads|| The Road I’m on

Taken at the close of 2024, during some quiet time spent in Point Reyes, California, this photo is more than just a snapshot of a road—it’s a visual representation of where I’ve been and where I’m heading. The idea of a “road” is often used metaphorically to describe the journey of life: the decisions we make, where we come from, and where we are going. In many ways, this image reflects just that—a journey, but also a reminder of what lies ahead, even when it feels unknown.

Looking at this road, there’s something about its open nature that speaks to the year I’ve just left behind. It’s an open stretch, no barriers, no directions—just a path forward. The road is moving in one direction, and there’s no turning back. It’s about moving forward, no matter what we might face or encounter. And yet, ahead, there’s a sense of uncertainty. The promise of what’s to come is as elusive as it is exciting. What we may want, what we dream about, can often be different from what we actually find.

This road, in particular, is a barren one. The ground is dry, cracked in places, but still sturdy enough to offer traction. It’s warm to the touch, a perfect surface to accelerate toward the unknown. Whether traveling by car, truck, bike, or on foot, it’s clear: this road will take you somewhere, but where exactly? That’s for the journey to reveal. The hills to the right suggest that there will be mountains to climb, challenges to face, yet the promise of a descent ahead—downhill moments that provide a sense of relief—remind us that the road is not all struggle. There’s balance in the journey, both ascents and descents.

And then, there’s the sky—a vast horizon with a crossroads emerging. What does it mean? Where do these choices lead? Sometimes, it feels as though the future is just out of reach, hanging somewhere between possibility and reality.

I took the months of December and January away from blogging. The words just weren’t coming, nor was the connection between the images I captured and the music I typically pair them with. Matching photography with music, an art that I’ve tried to weave together naturally for some time now, felt like a challenge I wasn’t quite ready to take on. It’s something I take seriously. I want it to flow with ease—something that comes from within. But sometimes, we have to step back, pause, and allow ourselves the space to find our rhythm again.

None of us can truly know what’s ahead. Life has a way of keeping its mysteries just out of sight. But as long as we stay grounded, as long as we believe in the road we’re on and trust that it’s taking us in the right direction, everything else fades into the background. The unnecessary noise dissipates, the air becomes fresh, and the mind clears. Our eyes are opened to the beautiful things this world has to offer, and our hearts are full knowing that the ones we love are with us every step of the way, their presence like a gentle wind at our backs, urging us forward.

As the year unfolds, I hope to embrace that forward momentum, trusting that the road—whatever it may bring—will take me exactly where I need to be.
