Future Season || Oceania
September holds a special place in my heart—not just because it’s my birth month, but because it triggers a profound nostalgia for autumn days spent in New England. As a child, I remember the world transforming into a vibrant tapestry of color, with brilliant orange and red leaves contrasting against the clear blue skies. The sun would filter through trees and buildings, casting warm light onto the fields where I played fall sports well into the autumn evenings. The cool air at the end of September signaled the inevitable change of seasons, especially in New England, where the transition from fall to winter is strikingly dramatic compared to the more subtle shifts of other seasons.
September feels like a time of renewal, a true new beginning. Just as the fiery leaves cascade from their branches, death becomes a poignant presence—a reminder that change is intrinsic to life. Death, often perceived solely as an ending, can also embody a deep beauty. It marks the completion of one phase and the potential for new growth, much like the cycle of nature itself. In this way, death invites reflection on existence, consciousness, and the mystery of what follows. It reminds us that every ending holds the seeds of new beginnings, urging us to embrace the ephemeral nature of life.
In my selected photo, titled "Future Season," I captured this sense of transition. It depicts a Northern California day that began with a clear blue sky, only to give way to encroaching clouds that gradually obscured the sun. As the light faded, the landscape shifted into a blend of deep blues and striking pinks, with vibrant oranges and yellows painting the horizon. This scene evokes memories of those autumn days in New England, where the colors of nature seemed to dance and transform, just as my own perspective has evolved. The act of witnessing these changes is akin to a rewiring of my senses, inviting me to embrace a new vision of the world. Each transition—whether in nature or within myself—contributes to the artist I am becoming, seeing the beauty in both loss and renewal through fresh eyes.

The title evokes a sense of exploration and discovery, mirroring the emotional and sonic journeys within the album. Overall, it’s a complex work that captures both introspective moments and grand, sweeping sounds.

The instrumental part of "Oceania" is lush and atmospheric, creating a dreamlike soundscape. It features layers of guitar textures, electronic elements, and orchestral arrangements that build a sense of depth and expansiveness. The instrumentation flows seamlessly, with ethereal melodies evoking feelings of longing and introspection. Dynamic shifts throughout enhance the emotional weight of the song, providing a powerful backdrop for the reflective themes in the lyrics. Overall, it’s both immersive and haunting, drawing listeners into its expansive sonic world.
Not only was this a moving song to edit "Future Season" to, but as fate would have it, This month, I had a chance meeting with Billy Corgan prior to seeing The Smashing Pumpkins in San Francisco. It was an honor to spend time with him, as sometimes you just know when you are in the presence of brilliance. My daughter, also a fan of this transcendent and transgenerational band, was thrilled to learn that the saying "don’t meet your idols" does not apply to Mr. Corgan. Thank you, Smashing Pumpkins, for the inspiration your art provides
In loving memory of Charlie Colin and Suzy Hyder, whose warmth and kindness touched everyone they met. They will forever remain in my heart.
